With the heightened awareness on cybersecurity and the need for critical infrastructure protection, Alcalde & Fay’s Cybersecurity Practice Group consists of an experienced group of professionals with expertise in the area of cybersecurity ranging from comprehensive cyber security needs assessments and follow-up protective maintenance, to accompanying insurance needs for cybersecurity as well as navigating policy objectives.

 

Alcalde & Fay developed its Cybersecurity Practice Group in order to expand the services provided to our well-established public body practice, including ports, and respond to the increasing importance of cybersecurity as a national priority. Both Congress and the Administration have become increasingly concerned with protecting the nation’s information technology network and critical infrastructure for gas, water, electric power, transportation, and other national facilities. Recent attacks on the nation’s financial infrastructure have shown the pervasive and crippling nature of cyber-attacks.

 

President Obama signaled the significance of cybersecurity by appointing a “Cyber Czar” and issuing an Executive Order - Improving Critical Infrastructure Cybersecurity. The Executive Order directed the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) to develop a framework to reduce cyber risks to critical infrastructure through the development of “a set of standards, methodologies, procedures, and processes that align policy, business, and technological approaches to address cyber risks.” NIST released these standards in early 2014.
